Wang Xiaobo is a rising thoughtful type writer in the1990s. He inherited thespirit of Lu xun’s criticism of the history and reality, drew lessons from American andBritish empiricism and negative liberalism’s point of view, He criticized Chinesehistory and social reality incisively with his life ideal pursuit of regardless of theinterests and the compassion for human. He proved with the attitude of making fun,playfulness, irony and humors that the history and reality is absurd and ridiculous, thenature of utopia is vain and authoritarian, no wisdom, no sex neither love, andvapidity is ugly and is hard to bear, from all that, he proved the precious human natureof good quality, such as the pursuit of freedom, wisdom, fun, love and sex. Heprovided a new enlightenment thought or way from two aspects of criticism andconstruction for the modern intellectuals since “May4th” enlightenment, which hasan revelation like changing iron into gold to the character and reshaping of value ofthe contemporary intellectuals. And the theme of this enlightenment which is basedon American and British empiricism and negative liberalism is just presented by thetheme of “seeking and fleeing”.This paper is composed by three parts of preface, text and epilogue, the body iscomposed by five chapters.The first chapter: it explains that “seeking and fleeing” is the metaphor for thehistory and the era of totalitarian domination through the analysis of the historicalbackground; it explains that “seeking and fleeing” involved in building a dystopianand utopian stance spirit of Wang Xiaobo through the analysis of Wang Xiaobo’spersonal revolt; it also explains that the intention of “seeking and fleeing” presents thecharacter of the seeking in the fleeing, the fleeing in the seeking through theanalysis of the relationship between seeking and fleeing.The second to the fourth chapter mainly analyzes the artistic presentation of“seeking and fleeing” in Wang’s early novels and doubt trilogy. As a writer, he puthis whole life’s experience, criticism and resistance of “no intelligence, asexsul and vapidity” survival plight, and the fleeing from this survival plight, breaking out of it,and the deep thought of it, the seeking of “intelligence, sex and love, interest”, that arerooted in his novel writing.The fifth chapter mainly discussed that how did Wang Xiaobo explained theincisive critique and breakout of social reality and the building of poetic spirit homewith his stance of dystopian and the hold of utopian spirit through the theme of“seeking and fleeing” in his doubt trilogy.Epilogue mainly discusses the embarrassing situation and marginalized positionof Chinese literary world of Wang Xiaobo who as a writer out of “system” and amaster-hand out of “literary master”, and people speak highly of his life in the wordsand behaviors.
