In recent years, with the implementation of China’s open policy and the frenzy hit of“Chinese fever”, the cultural exchange between China and other foreign countries are gettingcloser. More and more foreign students are coming to China and they hope that they couldunderstand China’s national conditions, folklore, culture and custom. To the foreign students inChina, language course and cultural course are the two main courses for their Chinese classes.The Chinese language courses often add some different cultural activities to satisfy the foreignstudents’ needs in the current colleges and universities. The author used “Culture Salon” as acultural activity and held an activity that named as “Peking Opera Mask” during the internship inHenan university, and this activity got a complete success. This paper revolves around thatactivity and attempts to provide a workable activities plan for the foreign students in learningChinese.The writing of this paper is based on the investigation of the situations about the studentsand teaching conditions in the Class D of international Chinese Academy In Henan University.For this paper, it is also based on the cultural activities which the Henan University internationalChinese Academy had held. The paper used investigation, observation and interviews methods.And concretely analyzed the Henan University international Chinese Academy class D students’country, Chinese proficiency and cultural needs. The writing of this paper also used thosemethods to analysis the development situation of Chinese “Culture Salon” and “Cultural salon”profile etc. This paper set up knowledge, skills, and emotion as this activity’s goal. Based on theprinciple of cultural, targeted and interesting, the paper designed “Peking Opera Mask” as thetheme of “Cultural salon” activity. This activity includes three purposes: stimulate the foreignstudents’ interests, and developing the operational abilities of foreign students and understandthe basic knowledge of Chinese Peking Opera Mask culture. The organization of the activity isalternating between both teaching knowledge and skill activities. The writing of this paper triedto use some strategies to organize this activity, such as emotion, guidance, motivation, commondevelopment and resource strategies. Finally, this essay also provides a complete event plan andthe feedback about the effects of the activity plan. The author hopes that this cultural activity could inspire the foreign students’ interests oftraditional Chinese culture and improve their understanding and tolerance of Chinese traditionalculture, and try to analysis the function of mutual promotion and complementary between the“Culture Salon” and foreign students, the foreign students whose Chinese level is in an advancedstage. Organically, it could can combine the cultural activities and Chinese language teachingtogether. Thus, it can make the foreign students learning through the lively activities. Ultimatelythis essay could provide some effective reference for the cultural activities in the teachingChinese as a foreign language.
