| Chinese traditional culture owns a unique appeal. It has contributed abundant resources to cultural diplomacy and trans-cultural communication. Chinese traditional opera plays an important role in Chinese traditional culture and always appealing Chinese audiences. Along with the improvement of China’s international status and the propose of strategic conception of "Going Global" of Chinese culture in the past few years, the translation and communication of Chinese traditional culture attract increasing attention of academic circles. Peking Opera epitomes the traditional opera arts and has been an important part of the strategy of "Going Global" of Chinese culture. However, there are some difficulties and barriers in the trans-cultural communication of Peking Opera, including choosing the content of Peking Opera, translating into which shape, choosing which channel to communicate, communicating to what kind of receptors and aiming to what effect. In2013, the item of English Translation Series of a Hundred Peking Opera Classics has been listed in the national social science fund major projects by the Department of Education. The item has been conduct by China’s National Opera Research Center, Renmin University of China and School of Arts, Beijing Foreign Studies University, aimed at promoting the overseas dissemination of Chinese traditional opera through translating100Peking Opera Classics into English to introduce to foreign audiences. Up to2015, the first10books have been published. This article plans to analyze the first10books of English Translation Series of a Hundred Peking Opera Classics to discuss the translation skills and overseas communication strategies of Chinese traditional operas.This article is divided into4parts. The first part is introduction. In this part, the significance of the subject and the research methods will be discussed. The second part is literature review to introduce the trans-cultural communication and translation of Chinese traditional opera. In the third part, the details of the item of English Translation Series of a Hundred Peking Opera Classics will be given and the translation content will be analyzed through four aspects. In addition, the first10books of English Translation Series of a Hundred Peking Opera Classics will be analyzed from the aspect of communication, including the background and modes. The fourth part is conclusion part, in which the suggestions on the translation skills and overseas communication strategies of Chinese traditional opera will be given. |
