On E-C Translation Of Economic Reports From A Constructivist Perspective

In2008, the subprime mortgage crisis finally triggered worldwide financial crisis, and people started to realize the world economy has become an interdependent one. As one of the key constraints on economic development, conflicts and wars once again caught global eyes. World Bank aims to help developing countries and has made great contributions to world economic growth. The reported issued by World Bank The Small Entrepreneur in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situation elaborates on the economic development in fragile regions, which helps improve business environment and boost economic recovery in regions suffered from wars and conflicts.However, the existing translation of this type of reports is, to different degrees, hard to understand for Chinese readers. Hence, this thesis tends to discuss the translation-related problems and seek for answers with theory guidance. It is the toughest task to adapt translated text to the Chinese language habit while ensuring the completeness of original information. Moreover, the written languages differ a lot from oral ones, which requires more translation skills to tackle. To solve all these problems, the author introduces the constructivist theory.The constructivist theory is based on Practical philosophy, communicative rationality, speech act and consensus theory of truth. By developing the formal theories of structuralism and deconstruction, the constructivist is of great importance to promote the translation research.The author tries to solve the key problems in the translation of economic reports through discussing the key strategies outlined in the constructivist theory. Based on multiple examples and analysis, the author believes this new theory can indeed guide actual translation. As an area yet to be fully explored, the translation of economic reports can be facilitated by introducing the constructivist theory.
