This is a translation project report on the special report China’s Place in TheWorld, which was published on The Economist in December2010. The special reportis composed of six separate articles on the theme of China’s place in the world. Theyare: Brushwood and Gall, The Fourth Modernisation, Less Biding and Hiding, In thebalance, Friends, or Else, Strategic Reassurance. Each of the six articles has aparticular role to play, but they are essentially coherent. The source text mainlyanalyses current China’s foreign relations, among which the relationship betweenChina and the United States is paid close attention to. The special report enjoys awide range to cover and a series of opinions to present. This translation report iscomposed of four parts. The first part is an introduction which briefly introduces thebackground, objectives and significance of the translation project. The second part isan analysis of the source text, including its background, main contents, target readersand stylistic features. The third part mainly analyzes the difficulties and key pointsencountered during the process of translation and offers relevant solutions byquoting particular examples. The last part makes a conclusion of the lessons andexperience acquired from the translation project, as well as the problems to beresolved.
