Hong Qian, as a member of the Vienna School, devoted all his life to studying andspreading the Vienna School philosophy, including its methods and spirit. His researchsubject and research object always had a high degree of self-correlation. Research onHong Qian’s attitude towards the Vienna School is of great importancemethodologically.Hong Qian, as a researcher, was basically trained and shaped by the Vienna School, and therefore he was quite familiar with its philosophy, methods and spirits as explainedby famous representatives of the Vienna School.Hong Qian brought basic aspects of core theories in the Vienna School to hisreaders. The theory is verification principle of experience. Other aspects include theevolution and transmitting process of the principle, distinction between two types ofpropositions, procedures of verification principle and logical approaches and so on. Healso introduced clearly recorded statements as foundation of knowledge, concept ofsubstantial evidence as well. Thus, in China, even in the world, Hong Qian’s name hasalways been associated with the Vienna School.Hong Qian’s study on the Vienna School basically builds on the standpoint of theVienna School, basically agreeing with or accepting the theoretical ideas of the ViennaSchool and its philosophical methods. Perhaps on some specific issues, Hong Qian helda specific different point from certain scholar’s of the Vienna School, but still he failedto make theoretical contributions, and to criticize the verification principle with Marxistsystem of practice as the sole criterion.Hong Qian’s lifelong philosophic research barely went beyond the Vienna School. It can be safely said that this greatly limited his vision and creation of a new theory.Hong Qian’s academic characteristics, achievement and limitations should also be seenand understood from the perspective of self-correlation between research subject andresearch object.
