| Hong Qian was a menber of Vienna School. His life was devoted to introducing and disseminating logical empiricism and scientific spirit. Logical empiricism complemented china's traditional philosophy in that china's philosophical tradition was lacking in inferential demonstration and devoid of logical spirit and method. This thesis elucidates and analyzes Hong Qian's study and introduction of logical empiricism and discusses the meaning and value of his research to Chinese philosophy in the context of Chinese philosophy and from the angle of a comparative study of Chinese — Western culture. Focusing on the logic issue, this dissertation unfolds in two parts. The first part concerns scientific knowledge, demonstrating that the essence of knowledge lies in the formal construction of logic. The second part dwells on logical analysis, stressing that philosophy is not a body of knowledge but activities of logical analysis. |
