The Warring States Period is the time when China moved towards aunified political infrastructure that facilitated nationwide culturalagglomeration. The main research target of this article is the potteriesunearthed at a Warring States Period site, Yuantaizi in Chaoyang. Basedon the analysis of burial shape and structure as well as typology of theaccompanying funerary objects, the article aims to divide Yuantaizi intofour stages. The first stage starts from the late Spring and Autumn Periodto the early Warring States Period when the feature of burial conventionwas dominated by the Linghe Culture. The second stage starts from theearly to the middle Warring States Period when the Linghe Culture and theYan Culture coexisted together. The third period starts from the mid-tolate Warring States Period when the Yan Culture replaced Linghe Cultureand gradually achieved the dominant status. In the fourth stage, during thelate Warring States Period Linghe Culture was basically extinct whereasYan Culture covered almost the western part of Liaoning. Later on, artifactstyles such as Han bronze mirror and pigment-painted ceramicssubstituted the Yan Culture, marking the transition from the Bronze Periodto the early Iron Age. The approximate time when the Bronze Cultureended in western Liaoning is equivalent to the establishment of QinDynasty in central China. Due to the political unification of during the Qinand Han, China was later able to formalize a consistent socio-politicalculture that step-by-step led people to the same understanding of livingcustom. Until the later Wudi Period in Han Dynasty, China ultimatelyformed an archaeologically supportive concept of Grand Unification.
