Love is one of the most basic and important human emotions and it is the essential part in human experiences. It is difficult to analyze due to its abstractness. However, the development of cognitive linguistics brings the new method to the study of love concept. It is generally acknowledged that linguistics is the necessary evidence in human cognition system therefore we can discuss the process of love conceptualization through the analysis of love.This thesis describes the expressions concerned with love emotion from the cognitive perspective. My research is to discuss the expressions of love concept by conceptual metaphors in parts of classical Chinese and English poetry. Linguists hold the view that the linguistics in poetry and the language in common life share the same cognitive system. Therefore, this thesis is going to discover the similar and different love metaphors both in English and Chinese and to summarize their similarities and differences at the same time the motivations for similarities and differences.This thesis concludes that there are eight similar love metaphors in English and Chinese like LOVE IS JOURNEY, LOVE IS PLANT, LOVE IS DISEASE, LOVE IS HEART, LOVE IS A FLUID IN A CONTAINER, LOVE IS UNITY, LOVE IS WAR and LOVE IS SPRING. And there are five different love metaphors in English as LOVE IS SUN, LOVE IS AN ECONOMIC EXCHANGE, LOVE IS MAGIC, LOVE IS VALUABLE OBJECT and LOVE IS DEITY. In Chinese, there are five unique love metaphors like LOVE IS MOON, LOVE IS TWO INSEPARABLE THINGS, LOVE IS SILK, LOVE IS DREAM and LOVE IS PREDESTINED RELATIONSHIP.
