Writing ability has been regarded as a very important language skill in English test system and occupies a large proportion in the IELTS,CET-6and NETEM tests. Therefore, how to improve the writing ability of candidates has been an important task of various stages of English education. It can be seen that most of the test-takers of IELTS have already taken the examination of CET-6or NETEM. Due to the fact that there are relatively less study about the comparison among the tests mentioned and that writing has always been playing a vial part in the overall academic performances, this paper is aimed at making comparison between domestic and abroad tests. Through the way of presenting issues, analyzing issues and solving these problems, I will compare these three tests, giving some detailed information about the band description, learning methods and teaching methods as well as putting forward corresponding suggestions and countermeasures. In the first chapter of this paper, test purposes, implementation and scoring systems of the writing examination of CET-6, NETEM and IELTS are compared and analyzed. Beyond that, I will also present some information about similarities and differences as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the test design. In the second chapter, some further differences of these tests, including task achievement, language requirement and the logic of languages are illustrated elaborately. Through this way, we can come to understand the diverse demand for students’language skills and thinking abilities of different examinations. The third chapter focuses on the analysis of the preparation for IELTS, CET-6and NETEM test. There are also some analysis and proposal about the issue of backgrounds, cultures and logic behind these tests. The fourth chapter, on the ground of teaching method, compares traditional language teaching methods and interactive language teaching.Through the comparison above, I am going to come to the conclusion that:(1) All these three tests show some similarities in terms of the test set, language output.(2) As for the writing mentality, IELTS writing pays closer attention to the disparity of different tasks, namely, subjective part and objective part, while CET-6and NETEM lay much emphasis on subjective analysis ability of candidates and require students to present their ideas by describing the pictures.(3) As to language performance, IELTS writing focuses on the combination of basic expression and logical thinking while the others give priority to the rationality of the expression of patterns and the argument. In addition, apparent differences exist in the logic demand of these three examinations. To be more specific, IELTS writing not only test student’s ability of language expression but also test the ability of critical thinking, in marked contrast with the demand for language expression of CET-6and NETEM test. Finally, based on the research findings, the thesis comes to the conclusion and gives summarization about learning and teaching methods of these tests.
