A Study On The Translation Of The Culture-loaded Terms Of Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out

In today’s background of better development of our nation and the cross-cultural environment of the world, culture-loaded terms, as a special media of cross-cultural activities is a window of the external exchange. Therefore, we must pay more attention in analyzing and studying them.The study, in the view of skopos theory and the typical CLTS in one of Mo Yan’s masterpieces Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out, will study how the translation methods were chosen, how to deal with the culture vacancy and so forth during the translating process. The main research findings and innovations are listed as following five aspects.(1) Through consulting plenty of pertinent literature, we found that the formers’ achievements of WLTS are not the best representative samples for most of their studies did not based on a specific corpus.(2)Through key word searching in some major database, we found that there was a shortage of the studies on Mo Yan’s works, especially the english versions. The study focus on introducing the former scholars’research current situation of skopos theory, Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out and CLTS, and reclassified the CLTS.(4) Through a great number of studies on instances, the study introduces the major methods usually used in translating CLTS and stresses that translators must pay more attention in choosing the appropriate strategies when doing translation.(5)The study stresses that we have to solve several problems in translating process, culture vacancy phenomenon, different ways of thinking between China and the western countries and the accomplishments of translators.With a mutual translating theory, adequate corpus and objective analyses, this study is a useful reference to the study fields of Chinese cross-cultural communication and culture translation. The study is close to our social life, content the requires of our positively external propaganda work and attach importance in bridging the cultural gap which can make contributions to the spreading of Chinese culture.
