China keeps expanding its global presence amid more frequent communication with the rest of the world thanks to its further implementation of the reform and opening-up policy. As a key role in the international arena, China works to absorb messages from the outside world with great modesty and an open mind and seeks to make its own voice heard and understood by the other countries. Consequently, China’s diplomatic work is making continuous progress and keeps thriving, which,of course, can not be realized without the hard work made by diplomatic interpreters. However, Chinese-English diplomatic interpreting consists of many difficulties. Interpreters must take both effective intralingual communication and interlingual communication into consideration. One the one hand, information from the speech must be accurately understood; on the other hand, interpreters need to bear in mind the differences between diplomatic diction and daily language as well as the differences between Chinese and English. With such daunting challenges for C-E diplomatic interpreting, interpreters are in urgent need of guidance from scientific theory and support of viable strategies.Conceptual Blending Theory, an important part of cognitive linguistics, constructs the theory framework of cognitive activities beneath many language activities. Interpreting, as an interlingual activity, is a result of cognitive development so that it can be analyzed by Conceptual Blending Theory. Moreover, interpreting is much more than a direct transformation from source language to target language. Instead, interpreting is a result of three cognitive activities, namely composition, completion and elaboration, after the cross-mapping of both source language space and interpreter space. Under the "many-space mapping model" and conceptual blending process that is composed of many cognitive activities, Chinglish can be reduced in C-E interpreting and effective interpreting strategies can be found. What’s more, in this paper, a number of examples related to diplomatic interpreting are used to clarify the guidance of the Conceptual Blending Theory to diplomatic interpreting and viable diplomatic interpreting strategies are summed up from the perspective of Conceptual Blending Theory. Therefore this paper is of great theoretical significance and practical value.
