China’s Confucian culture is profound and not only has a great influence on China’s traditional culture and social development but also played an irreplaceable role on the social and cultural development of North Korea’s ideology. Especially after the end of Neo-Confucianism incoming Korea, it gradually developed into the dominant ideology in the Korean society and had a tremendous impact on the historical and social development.Lee Jeong-gu lived through North Korea Seonjo, Gwanghaegun, Injo Wenchen dynasties, and had been the envoy to visit Ming dynasty for four times, accompanied with the Korean Pavilion messenger for seven times, thus greatly influenced by the Chinese Confucian. He submitted many suggestions to the authorities under the instruction of Confucian Thoughts and during his stay in Ming dynasty as a lobbyist, he made full use of Confucianism, so that North Korea repeatedly turned the corner. Lee Jeong-gu is an indispensable figure in the history of Korean Confucianism.This thesis first introduces Lee Jeong-gu’s academic life from his courtiers experiences and the Envoy to the Ming, then discusses the background, Confucian Thought reflected and its academic significance of one of his representative works of Confucianism "University Quotations". In this paper, based on different ideas on the nature of the academic argument works under the special historical background, the features of the medium-term development of Korean Confucianism and characteristics of initially incoming Yangming school are analyzed."University Quotations" is a wonderful argument about the Neo-Confucianism and Yangming school for the first time. Ting turtle insisted orthodox Neo-Confucianism thought in the debate and illustrated Confucianism propositions of "The enlightenment of brilliant virtues"" The remolding of people","The pursuit of ultimate goodness" and in his submissions to the king he criticized the heresy of Yangming’s Taabi’een Song Yingchang’s Lu and Wang Xin Xue, but from the process and content of the debate and the subsequent Confucian views and the attention to the unity of knowledge and action, he partially accepted Yangming views by deepening the understanding them.Lee Jeong-gu’s Confucianism was also reflected in his book "feast of the lecture", the insights of the contents of the Confucian classics including "Analects of Confucius","Mencius" presented some Confucianism and propositions and measures, such as "benevolent government", using talented and morally right, being "popular".Lee Jeong-gu’s Statecraft Thought clearly reflected the characteristics of it own time. During the Japanese invasion, the whole society was in a state of paralysis. Although Korea repelled the pirates under the support of the Ming army, the war turned the entire society into a major crisis, and state was caught in a state of paralysis, the population plummeted, land abandoned, the disease spread. Due to financial paralysis, the court even openly selling official positions. During the times of hardship, people are irritated and people’s uprisings occurred. In this context, Lee Jeong-gu Statecraft Thought exhibited the ability to grasp the major social issues of relevance and showed the distinctive and detailed understandings on the terms of music, diplomatic defense, social illnesses, Confucian education and selection of personnel and other aspects, and advocated "The enlightenment of brilliant virtues "," The remolding of people "," The pursuit of ultimate goodness "policy had a profound impact on the whole society.In summary, based on the life and academic origin of Lee Jeong-gu, this paper focuses on his concept of statecraft and Confucianism thoughts and discussed these ideas, characteristics of the times and the academic significance. Lee Jeong-gu not only influenced the political situation and the history of North Korea dynasty, also added more flavor into the dominant situation of Neo-Confucianism as who directly contacted with the Ming Yangming character. Its attention to apply what they learned in Confucianism, reform thoughts toward social illnesses became an important part of the mid-Confucianism in Korea.
