The tribunes of plebs are born in the Conflict of the Orders between the patricians and plebians, it leads the plebs to push the political and economic struggles go further. Distribution of the ager publicus and break the political monopoly are the two main themes of the struggles, as the political achievement, the tribunes propose many agrarian laws related to the distribution of ager publicus. With enhancement of the political and economic strength of plebs, the tribunes of plebs gradually realize the institutionalization. In the2nd century BC its power reaches a peak. In the late Republican period of social transformation, from the Gracchus brothers to Drusus, the tribunes of plebs lead a tierce and far-reaching social change by the way of proposing agrarian laws, and in this process the tribunes of plebs undergo important historical evolutions.The first chapter describe the background of the birth of tribunes, analyses the consolidation and development of tribunes during the Roman Republic in the early to mid, cites the several important authorities of the tribunes.The second chapter makes a brief land survey and a review of land reforms of Roman Republic.The third chapter mainly analyses the impacts of the tribunes in land reforms in the late Roman Republic, the reasons why the tribunes could lead the social changes and its evolutions.The conclusion summarizes the impacts of the tribunes in the land reforms and its evolutions in the late Roman Republic.
