With a long history and various subjects, Chinese paper cutting art is one of themost popular traditional folk art forms. With a pair of scissors or a knife as tool, colorfulpapers as the main material, a skillful craftsman can create a variety of vivid paper-cutimages which brings people a different kind of aesthetic experience. At the meantime, itis tied with the deep cultural emotions. As a major genre of folk art, folk paper cuttingexhibits profound cultural connotations by visual beauty-appreciation. As an intangiblecultural heritage gaining increasingly broad attention from the public, folk paper cuttinghas become a new national project which will be protected and developed.Yantai paper cutting was selected into the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritagelist. Besides, as a member of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, Yantaipaper cutting has been getting unprecedented protection and attention. With this premise,this paper mainly studies the art characteristics of paper cutting in Fushan district,which was called as “Blessed land” in ancient times. As a part of Yantai folk papercutting, Fushan paper cutting art has its own unique artistic features, which not onlyshows the aesthetic experience of the local people, but also offers a chance to learnabout Fushan unique local folk customs and cultural characteristics, among which itelaborates the relation between paper-cut art and folklore. It plays an importantreference role on researching, protecting, inheriting and developing Yantai Fushan papercutting.This paper consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction. The second partis the general situation of Yantai Fushan paper cutting. The third part is artistic featuresof Fushan paper cutting. The fourth part is the inheritance of Fushan paper cutting. Thefifth part is the conclusion.In the introduction, the writer narrates the reason, purpose, significance, previousresearches and research method. The second part is divided into five smaller parts. Inthe beginning, it talks about Fushan area served as the general background ofresearching, from the perspective of geography, history, humanity and culturalenvironment. And then, a detailed study of the origin, development and the presentsituation of Fushan paper cutting art is conducted. After this, it gives the result ofinvestigation on its geographical distribution and its characteristics. Then the next part introduces connections between Fushan paper cutting art and the surrounding areas. Atlast, it describes the picture of the close connection between Fushan paper cutting artand the local residents in detail. The third part mainly studies on the characteristics ofFushan paper cutting art. The fourth part introduces the inheritance of Fushan papercutting, including the method of inheritance and the inheritors. The last part, conclusionand suggestion, will make a brief summary of the contents and put forward reasonablesuggestions, hopefully promoting the sustainable development of the Fushan papercutting art.Through investigation and research on Yantai Fushan paper cutting, you can learnabout the development and typical characteristics of Fushan paper cutting art withfocusing on contained folk culture and simultaneously evoking for a renewed emphasison paper cutting art. The purpose of this paper is causing the relevant departments andthe public to strengthen the protection and inheritance paper-cut art through in-depthstudy, eventually reaching the hope that many paper cutting genres can be brilliant againthrough the ages.
