There are many cultural relics of the Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty, the tile-ends is oneof the most typical relics. The research of the tile-ends in the south of the Qinling Mountains andthe Huaihe River would expose its characteristics and changes. This article is composed of fourchapters.Chapter I: Introduction. This chapter introduces the time and space of this research. The timeof this research begin from AD600to AD1300, which composed of the Tang Dynasty,FiveDynasties and Ten States and the Song Dynasty. Then it reviews the brief history of the research ofthe tile-ends.Chapter II: The partition about the areas and stages of the tile-ends in the south area of theTang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty. By sorting out the tile-ends in the South area of the TangDynasty and the Song Dynasty, which had been reported yet, this chapter divides the tile-ends intofour main areas.They are the area of the lower reaches of the Changjiang River, the area of thewater gap of the Changjiang River, the area of the Minjiang River and the area of the ZhujiangRiver. Based on the space and time research, this chapter concludes the main characteristic of theend-tiles of each area, which is different from the other area. Every area has its own developingtrajectory, and based on the periodical characteristics of the differents, this chapter divides thehistory of the end-tiles of different areas into different stages.Chapter III: This chapter concludes the main characteristics about the tile-ends in the southarea of the Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty. And based on the former researches, it investigateabout some related problesm of the end-tiles such as the size and the material of the end-tiles.Chapter IV:Final report. This chapter makes a summary of the former three chapters, andmakes a summary and an appraisal of this article’s studies.
