This is a report based on the English-Chinese translation project of an excerptedpart from Lonely Planet: Jamaica written by Paul Clammer and Brendan Sainsbury.This tourism brochure provides detailed information of Jamaica for travelersspecifically for backpackers and do-it-yourself travelers all over the world. It providesthem the practical tourism information such as history, sights, activities, festivals,sleeping, eating, drinking, nightlife, shopping, and transportation, etc.Tourism brochure belongs to technical translation of non-literary translationwhose content is a variety of areas in the social life,covering politics, economics, law,science, culture and so on in all areas of the social life. Accuracy is the primarycriterion of non-literary translation. Therefore, it is definitely practical, necessary andsignificant to conduct related translation study for accuracy in non-literary translationwith this case study. The language feature of this translation project is introductory. Ifthe target language is inaccurate, the message it conveys will mislead the readers,make the travelers encounter difficulties and the author’s original intention cannot beachieved.The translation project is the whole chapter of Negril&West Coast. This reportgives an introduction to the project, the Lonely Planet: Jamaica and the features ofnon-literary translation, discussing the purpose and value of this report. It is writtenon the basis of my analysis of relevant issues concerning accuracy raised in theprocess of the translation from the perspective of translator’s ethics to indicatetranslators’ language skills and translators’ work attitude influencing accuracy innon-literary translation. Finally, this report concludes that during the translation andrevision phase of non-literary translation, it is crucial for translators to apply somerelated language skills and hold the sense of responsibility in order to achieveaccuracy.
