With the rapid improvement of packing designs, they are playing an increasingly important role in the market place. Packing today is not just only offering containers for goods, but embodies the image of an enterprise culture and its brand as well. It is a general acknowledgement of enterprises that packaging improves product quality grade. Influenced by floods of foreign outstanding packaging designs, similarities and lack of creativity and uniqueness of packaging design is a common problem in today’s China. How to combine Chinese traditional packaging design craftsmanship with modern techniques to enhance competitiveness of the packaging products on the market is thought provoking in China.Packaging design is recognized to focus on techniques, and China has been long known for its excellent handicraft techniques since ancient times. Its plentiful craft categories and ingenious handicraft processing techniques have enjoyed reputation in the world. In modern packaging designs, the diversity of design styles make packing craft conform with the Chinese aesthetic standard and more approaching to the Chinese consumer market. When it comes to the functional property, craft packing,with its feature of craft, can be used for art collection in addition to its basic function,so that waste of packing products can be avoided and packing products can be recycled.This article focuses mainly on the feasibility and superiority to combine handcraft and packaging through an analysis of the traditional handcraft with modern packaging design of case analysis. In the article, ceramic tea canister packaging design is taken as an example for the introduction to designs of craft packing, its technique process and the packaging aesthetic artistic vision it ultimately reflects. The article also discusses ways to perfectly integrate national traditional arts and crafts culture intomodern packaging designs through both theory and practice, with the purpose of preserving and developing the traditional craft culture of China.
