Image expressionism is a new painting style, which focus on combing the western art with Chinese tradition art based on the study of the difference and commons of western and Chinese art. It also pursues the artistic conception expressing. This thesis chose "the relationship of poem and painting" theory, which is a significant topic, as a entry point to study Image Expressionism. The thesis is a great theoretical significance in how "the relationship of poem and painting"theory effect on Image Expressionism.The first part of thesis summarize the mainstream ideologies of "the relationship of poem and painting" theory both in western and Chinese art history, and analysis the historical and cultural reasons why western and Chinese art history have totally different discuss of this theory. The thesis redefine "the relationship of poem and painting" theory, and paint out it is not a study of neither "poem" or "painting", and not all the poems and paintings are included. Putting this theory under modern circumstance, this thesis point out that "the relationship of poem and painting" theory has displaced, it belongs to inter discipline study, and "the relationship of poem and painting" theory is abstract.Base on the new point view of the theory, the thesis start to explore how "the relationship of poem and painting"theory effect on Image Expressionism. It concludes three parts.The fist part is about the formal features, which include three factors:the lines, the colors and the arrangements.The second part is about the essential features. Because of the artistic conception is what both poem and painting pursues, the key of the essential features would be the spirit of a panting and the imagination.The spirit of a panting includes two part. The fist one is about the harmony of all the elements on a painting, and the second one requires attainment from the artist. The thesis classify the the imagination into three different styles:the deepen imagination, the bouncing imagination, and the exceeding imagination.The third part is about the emotional features, which is poetic thinking. The poetic thinking in the painting practical has metaphor and symbolic, it also remove the episodic in a painting, and emphasize instinct.The last part of the thesis is about personal art work. It includes two themes: Chinese opera and the abstract paintings.
