Zheng is one of the oldest musical instruments of plucking, which was early called Qin Zheng because it was from Chinese Qin (Shanxi Province today) in the Warring States period. Zheng flourished in the Tang Dynasty, which has a long history and an important research-value. In China, there are many schools of Zheng, such as, Shandong school, Henan school, Chaozhou School, kejia school and Zhejiang school and soon. Before reform and opening up, because many schools of Zheng have not been handed downed or cannot be verified for many reasons, as the first school of Chinese Qinzheng, Shanxi Zheng faction is rarely mentioned even excluded from the mainstream factions of Zheng. It was until the early 1950s, owing to unremitting efforts of a large number of Qinzheng artists, Qinzheng welcome a renaissance and development, after decades of efforts and development, Shanxi Zheng is becoming gradually mature.This article discussed the origin and historical development of Shanxi Zheng, from the perspective of the development of its beginning stage traced back to the historical origins of Shanxi Cheng school. In addition, it discussed the Shanxi Zheng music ontology in terms of its formed musical style and characteristics. This article uses the literature sorting, induction and summary of carding the history of Shanxi Zheng, through the analysis of Shanxi Zheng music, to discuss thefeatures Shanxi Zheng and the factors affecting the formation of Shanxi Zheng’s music style. Shanxi Zheng school is growing up in the cradle of Shanxi folk music. It absorbs Shanxi opera, confused, bowl bowl cavity, folk songs and other folk music elements, and was established in the revival of Shanxi city in 1960s.
