A vocal ensemble is one that expresses music mainly through human’s voice. Generallyspeaking, a vocal ensemble encompasses traditional choir, choir group, a cappella chorus, etc.. Now,a vocal ensemble mainly refers to a modern a cappella choir.A cappella, Italian for "in the manner of the church" or "in the manner of the chapel", isspecifically a group or solo singing without instrumental accompaniment. It contrasts with cantata,which is accompanied singing. A cappella is unique in its independence of any instrumentalaccompaniment, relying only on human voices.In this paper, the author discusses the formation, training methods, composing tools, operatingphilosophy and other aspects of vocal ensembles; with Wing Vocal Ensemble as an example, thepaper combs the building and development of a vocal ensemble, and compares the traditional choirwith a cappella vocal ensemble, and analyzes the management and operations of a cappella vocalensembles, and strives to put forward constructive views on this subject, and hopes to contribute tothe development of a cappella vocal ensembles in China.
