Through the research of the application of Chinese Korean nationality’s traditional mask modelling in black-and-white woodcut> using the methodology of combining literature and experimental studies, this paper elaborates the artistic and cultural value of the applied research of Chinese Korean nationality’s traditional mask modelling in black-and-white woodcut which is illustrated through the example of "Trace · Mark " from four aspects as follows. Firstly, the traditional mask of Chinese Korean nationality is briefly introduced. Secondly, the artistic expression of black-and-white woodcut is illustrated. Thirdly, the practice of the black-and-white woodcut "Trace·Mark " is elaborated. Finally, the significance of the applied research of Chinese Korean nationality’s traditional mask modelling in black-and-white woodcut is summed up as a conclusion.The black-and-white woodcut "Trace · Mark " is based on the Korean traditional mask modelling. It is modelled on 18 masks including 13 performing masks and 5 sacrificial masks among which there are 11 Sandaetal masks,4 Hahoe masks,2 Byeongsan masks and 1 Bongsan mask. With simple and harmonious form of composition, Korean traditional mask modelling is consciously immersed into the 15 black-and-white woodblocks in "Trace·Mark ", the charm of which is well illustrated during the process."Trace · Mark " is an interesting and humorous black-and-white woodcut created in response to inhering the traditional Korean mask culture. Through the research of how the traditional Korean Sandaetal masks, Ghost masks and Bangsangssi masks are applied in white-and-black woodcuts, this paper explores the practice of creating "Trace · Mark " using various approaches including literature review, classification analysis, argumentation and citation.The experimental studying of white-and-black woodcut is an interesting attempt to explore traditional culture of Chinese Korean nationality. The purpose of this paper not only lies in providing a certain degree of reference for traditional Korean masks study but also arousing interest and attention for traditional Korean culture so as to not fade with history. Throughout history, the new replaces the old. However, the ones with value of times and arts only become more precious as time goes on. The traditional culture of Korean masks is exactly the representation of Korean culture which is worth studying, treasuring and developing.As a representation of folk culture, traditional Korean mask culture witnessed the whole Korean history and dream which in turn endowed a rich cultural and artistic meaning into the masks. It is the symbol of the time and a precious treasure for traditional Korean folk fine arts. Along with the development of history and time, its content and pattern of manifestation has transformed from simple to complex. Looking back, it implied Korean nationality’s aesthetic standard and its ethnic characteristics. Apart from the rich cultural deposits, the spiritual treasure engraved in it becomes all the more precious.
