In simultaneous interpretation, as English and Chinese respectively have huge differences, sticking to the source language structure may not achieve the ideal output. In 1970 s, Danica Seleskovitch and Marianne Lederer with other scholars proposed the interpretive theory. It regards that the aim of interpretation is to convey the meaning, emotion and attitude of the speaker and erase the obstacles of communication. With the aim of achieving mutual understanding, translation might turn out to be a practice of exhibiting technical competence, cognitive process, and mental ability, rather than the pure linguistics concerned.This thesis presents a comparative, empirical study of the deverbalization in interpreting provided in the classroom context, aiming to investigate the application of deverbalization strategy in simultaneous interpreting(SI). Four participants were selected from second-year MTI students of XX University, who performed as an individual and was to be observed in simultaneous interpreting training trials. The materials used in the SI were analyzed and the application of deverbalization strategy was under discussion. In particular, the versions of different interpretation of the four students have been carefully examined and analyzed.Drawing on the samples, the author argued that the deverbalization mode demonstrated a greater degree of efficacy than the conventional. Through deverbalization, interpreters employ the techniques of restructuring involving the skills of waiting and anticipation, explanation involving the skills of simplification and addition, and innovation involving skills of paraphrasing and conversion. Moreover, since an interpreter is bound to decide what to keep and what to leave out of the original text, the authors assumes that deverbalization interpreting is an effective communicative device to realize the communicative act which benefits the speakers. The interpreting skills summarized in the light of deverbalization can help solve the difficulties during SI and it is also viewed as a guidance for the SI training and practice.
