The Interpretive Theory, founded in1970s and represented by Danica Seleskovitch and Marianne Lederer, regards that the target of interpretation is to convey the meaning, emotion and attitude of the speaker to erase the obstacles of communication. As a communicative action, therefore the object of interpreting is the sense of the source language not merely the language structure itself.Built on the Interpretive Theory, particularly its core idea of deverbalization, this paper conducts comparative analyses on the coping tactics used to realize deverbalization in English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation with the selection of five second-year postgraduate students from MT1major of X University as the research object and eight speeches from training materials as the research material. Through research and comparison, it is found that simplification, addition and paraphrasis can help to achieve deverbaliztion in English-Chinese SI. Due to the limited time of simultaneous interpretation, interpreters may choose to omit less important information and repeated expressions so as to convey the key message. However, when tackling flexible usage of words and prepositional phrases used in English, interpreters should add some supplementary information or conjunctions in a proper manner to facilitate the process of understanding between the speaker and the audience. Meanwhile, interpreters should not be tied to the deep structural concept but paraphrase the sense and grasp the logical line of the speaker, so that the audience is more likely to receive the meaning rather than the words or phrases of the source text.The three tactics listed above can help to cope with difficulties of deverbalization in English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation and provide some guidance on the training and practice of interpretation in the future.
