The Study On The "A Jiushi(就是)A" Construction

The "A jiushi (就是)A" construction is widely used in modern Chinese, it is quite concise and expresses obvious personal subjective intentions. Guided by Goldberg’s Construction Grammar, the methods of Cognitive Linguistics, and some other linguistic theories, we analyze and interpret the construction by using the combination of description and interpretation, the combination of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, the combination of synchronic and diachronic, inductive, deductive, comparative analysis and other methods, we do researches on the definition and components of the construction, its constructional meaning, its pragmatic value, its cognitive investigation and comparison between similar constructions.The main contents are as follows.In Chapter I, we summarize five results about the study of "A jiushi A", four kinds of differences and two problems.In Chapter II, we make sure that "A jiushi A" is a construction according to its definition. We clarify "A jiushi A" into Factual Model and Idealized Model.In Chapter III, we focus on the components of the construction, "jiushi" is a contact item, it contacts two variable "A" and strengthens the subjective function of "A jiushi A". We carry out quantitative and qualitative analysis on the variable "A". We also discuss the syntax function of "A jiushi A".In chapter IV, from the aspect of constructional meaning, "A jiushi A" has a basic meaning and a contextual meaning, it can express interpretation, emphasis and declaration. And there are some differences in meaning between the Factual Model and the Idealized Model. We discuss the pragmatic functions and influencing factors of "A jiushi A". The Factual Model means to get more attention. The Idealized Model can unify more productivity and economical efficiency at the same time. The position of the center of "A jiushi A" has a great influence on the the Idealized Model. Meanwhile, under the guidance of emergent grammar, we explore the formation and use of "A jiushi A", and point out that the "emerging" not only promotes its formation, but also restricts the application of it.In chapter V, we focus on the underlying cognitive explanation of "AjiushiA", paying much attention to its subjectivity, we use meta-langue to explain the Factual Model, and Idealized Cognition to interpret the Idealized Model, and we attempt to explore the operation process of Idealized Model by metonymy.In chapter VI, we contrast "A jiushi A" with "A shi A" and "A jiu A".
