A Study Of Influence On Zhang Daqian’s Artistic Style Of His Three Visits To Dunhuang

Zhang Daqian is a great master of traditional Chinese painting who is the most international fame in China’s modern art history.His special artistic style, as well as his innovative painting technique are unique in the history of Chinese painting art. Therefore, it has great practical significance and academic meaning to make analysis and research of his painting art. Traveling to Dunhuang and studying there in his middle ages is the art practice that is worth researching most in Mr. Zhang’s lifetime artistic career. There are close internal relations between Mr. Zhang’s painting art and Dunhuang Grottoes. On one hand, travel to Dunhuang makes Mr. Zhang’s artistic thought and painting style change a lot. And he has made remarkable achievements in the art practice of analysis and copy of Dunhuang frescoes. That lays the foundation of his artistic achievements afterwords. On the other hand, through sorting art features of paintings in ancient Chinese dynasties, Mr. Zhang learned the origins of traditional Chinese painting development. He has absorbed nutrients from the ancient painting art and has practiced the principle of "create new works of art from old ones".In this paper, we have collected and collated all kinds of literature about Mr.Zhang’s artistic style and Dunhuang grottoes. With the process of Mr.Zhang’s visit to Dunhuang as study material, through analyzing his states of mind as well as paintings before and after traveling to Dunhuang with the approach of a combination of comparative analysis and theoretical study, we have analyzed and summarized the differences before and after traveling to Dunhuang.At the same time, we must go back to the survey and research on an extensive literates.By associating it with another work, we should also emphasize the influence of his trip to Dunhuang on his artistic style.
