Recitation has been considered as a traditional teaching method in China. Remembering articles and reciting poems also depend on it. With the popularization of CET4 or CET6, the recitation method is gradually used in college English writing. Even though this method has been accepted widely, a few scholars still believe that it is just a mechanical memory method. However, I don’t agree with that. The research chooses the freshmen majoring in computer in Fuzhou Straits Vocational and Technical College as the subject. Through the research, the author finds that the recitation method will help to improve students’English writing skills.The paper is based on the theories of Input Hypothesis, Output Hypothesis, and some relevant psychological theories. The research methodology in this study includes literature review, questionnaire survey and experimental study. The application of recitation method aims to answer the following two questions:1) Can the method of recitation-as-input teaching change the attitudes towards English writing? 2) Can the method of recitation-as-input teaching improve students’writing skill? The experiment results show that the application of the method of recitation-as-input teaching can change students’attitudes to English writing and improve their writing skills. By practicing the method of recitation, students can use more vocabularies and phrases. Besides, students can use more complex sentence structures and patterns in their writing with fewer and fewer mistakes in grammar and spelling. Meanwhile, students tend to have more to write and can imitate samples to write better compositions with suitable frameworks.The research provides an effective model for the teaching of English writing: teachers should pick up suitable materials according to students’ability of comprehension so that students can recite them with their understanding of sample articles. The experiment shows that the more good sample articles the students recite, the more useful words, phrases and sentence patterns the students will learn. Then, teachers should give students suitable writing assignments. Equipped with more useful vocabulary and idiomatic phrases and patterns, students tend to have more confidence in writing, thus they will be more willing to finish teachers’writing assignment. Therefore, if the teaching of English writing is combined with the method of recitation, gradually students’ writing skills will be improved.
