With the development of economic globalization, English has become a general tool for internationalcommunication. Mastering English has become a required course for every student and oral Englishshoulder a more important position. From present situation, most of Chinese students pay more attention tothe test-oriented English; few of them can practice English fluently. College education is required tocultivate students’ practical ability. So how to improve college students’ oral proficiency has attractedteachers’ interests.English as one of the three basic courses in entrance examination for students is an effective toimprove comprehensive performance. For English major students, their spoken language has a higherprofessional requirement and language leaning environments are mostly limited in school in Chineseuniversities and the classroom. Because of lacking of language environment, English input, directly led topoor oral English output. So how to improve their spoken English for English major students is a focusstudy of this article. Recitation as a traditional language acquisition method has made remarkableachievements in teaching practice. It has been proved that this traditional method can also be applied tosecond language acquisition. Understanding of the traditional methods and exploring the memorizingstrategy have important guiding significance to improve students’ spoken English.The experiment had chosen two class’s sophomore students majored in English as subjects inJinzhong College. There are70students as subjects totally. There are two classes one class is experimentalclass and the other is control class and each class has35students. The author takes pre-test and post-test forthese students. She had chosen some interesting texts to let students of experimental class recite. Theexperimental class takes traditional reciting learning strategy while the control class doesn’t take measures.After12weeks reciting training, the researcher contrasts the test results. Through comparison, we canprove that the students in experimental class had improved oral proficiency. The research testifies thecorrectness of reciting learning strategy. The reciting input teaching method had helped students improvethe ability of grasping the meaning of the words. What’s more, the method had improved the ability ofspeaking and listening. This traditional reciting strategy catches the teachers and students’ attention again.The research testifies that the reciting teaching method is useful for improving the students’ oralEnglish, and their ability of speaking and listening. It strengthened the comprehensive ability of students. But the research still has some limitations. How to choose the reciting materials for students and how toprovide a good environment for communication by English is a question. We must provide more interestingand authentic materials which can reflect American and English culture to show its usefulness.
