With regard to English teaching in the vocational colleges, at present many teachers still adopt the traditional teaching modes, laying emphasis on the linguistic interpretation and neglecting the cultivation of the students’ comprehensive pragmatic linguistic abilities. While the modern English approaches have good effects on improving English teaching, there are some defects in vocational college English teaching. The author proposes that the teachers properly design the teaching situation in efforts to improve students’ ability of language application. Based on structural linguistics and behaviorism psychology theory, and drawing on the domestic and foreign research achievement, the paper conducts the empirical study by means of interview, questionnaire, observation and other relevant teaching experiment. The study found that he students improved their study state, When the teacher applied Task-based Language Teaching, Multimedia-aided Teaching and Game Teaching to the modern language teaching. In so doing, it indicates that the situation teaching approach facilitates the students to enhance their interests of learning English, encourage them to participate in class activities in an active way, and give full play to their cognitive subject role. Such a flexible teaching mode is capable of diversifying the teaching approaches and forms, and overcoming problems concerning traditional teaching’s incompatibility with the reality. It attaches equal importance to teachers’ self-development and students’ EL improvement. This study significantly gears to the need of vocational education development, and is deemed to be a positive response to English teaching innovation.
