Exploration On Yang Shuguang’s Vocal Music Art

Yang Shuguang, professor of Vocal Voice & Opera Dept. China Conservatory of Music, master tutor, soprano, and vocal music educator. During the past two decades, Yang has adhered to the vocal music teaching as the core, vocal performance and vocal research as the two wings, blended western and ethnic theories practically and theoretically to break a new path in vocal music art. Based on the value of teaching and educating people, exploration and research on Yang can provide experiences for vocal learners and educators, and a new path of innovation for the development of national vocal music art.Yang Shuguang is adept at drawing lessons from different singing, assimilate and integrate them. As a great scholar well versed in both Chinese and western cultures, Yang mutually integrate western bel canto with Chinese folk singing, and boldly introduce the elements of drama and minority musical styles into it. Her singing, skillfully, with a style embodying the perfect combination of ethnic and bel canto singing, has a unique genre of traditional Chinese folk music. She has a good control over a variety of different styles of vocal works, and has diversifying styles. Extensively reading of folk works helps her to form a great grasp of styles, features and singing techniques in ancient poetry, modern and contemporary art songs and ethnic songs.Based on a advanced teaching concept of incorporating tradition with innovation home and abroad, Yang has gradually built a systematic, relatively complete vocal teaching model and formed her own teaching characteristics. She has trained a great number of outstanding vocal performing artists and had a certain impact on teaching and singing of modern Chinese folk vocal music.Yang undertaken and completed a number of national and provincial music subjects, wrote and published "Yang Shuguang Song Selection for Research and Teaching Variety of Chinese and Western Singings," " Researches on Chinese Opera Singing" and several books.
