Cooperative Principle(CP), a basic rule to regulate people’s behaviors in communication, has been proven applicable in Consecutive Interpreting(CI). Based on CP and its four maxims, the author chooses Premier Li Keqiang’s two press conferences interpretation(PCI) in 2014 and 2015 to study the tactics adopted by the professional interpreter to ensure quality interpretation when violations of CP occur. After a careful analysis of the reasons, coping tactics for these violations, their effects on communication cooperation as well as the quality of interpretation, the author finds out that linguistic and cultural differences between Chinese and English and some other factors make it possible for the occurrences of violations of CP. The interpreter would resort to various tactics, such as visualization of logic, addition of subject, addition of object, addition of transitional phrase, repeated meaning deletion, literal translation, free translation, and explanation to ensure the quality of interpretation and contribute to the successful communication between the two parties. At last, the author summarizes the tactics the interpreter adopted in different situations in the hope of benefiting future interpreting training and practice.
