With the development of technology, Internet has been playing a more and more important role in every individual’s daily life. Especially the rising social media in recent years has changed the mode of communication in the society, while there are few books on the research of social media, which has a far-reaching influence on modern life. Daniel Trottier’s Social Media as Surveillance: Rethinking Visibility in a Converging World aims on researching one of the social media: Facebook. In the book, the author shows how different people consider the phenomenon of using Facebook, and how social media influences people’s privacy, which provides a lot of new opinions for us. This report, for one thing, mainly discusses some problems the writer has met when translating Chapter 4 of the book, by means of contrastive analysis of the writer’s translation and the source text, and for another, tries to present the readers a more fundamental way for self-improving. Finally, the writer hopes that the translation of this book can provide suggestions and references for other translators translating books of the same genre and readers reading these books.
