A Report On The Thesis Translation Of Field Fusion—the Engineering Education In The Early Stage Of The Prc

Based on the theory of Translation Ecology, and the analysis of the English version of Chinese target text Field Fusion——The Engineering Education in the Early Stage of the PRC, the report proposes some strategies for the proper translation of the technical terms, the vocabulary with Chinese characteristics, the subjectless sentences and the implicit logical relationship in the target text, and at the same time hones two pervasive issues in translation, translation survivability and perspective consensus between the author and the translator.The target text is categorized as a paper on the philosophical history of science and technology, characterized by the technical and formal style and the ap plication of some basic knowledge of humanities, since it involves such fields as science, technology, philosophy, politics and society. The specific stylistic feature gives rise to the study in the current report, which mainly includes:1. Through analyzing the social background of the target text, two strategies are proposed — — only considering the tenor of metaphorical expressions and complementing the meaning of abbreviated expressions — — in translating the expressions with Chinese characteristics.2. Based on the analysis of the natural and social background of the target text, sentences with inanimate subject are used in the translation, so the subjectless sentences in the target text can be properly handled while their objectivity remains.3. English compound sentences are used to express the logical relations implied in the simple sentences in the target text.4. In light of the related principles of Translation Ecology, great importance is attached to two issues, the survivability of translation and the perspective consensus between the author and the translator.Generally, the report delivers a summary with regard to the experience accumulated through the translation practice including strategies, difficulties and weaknesses. With the description of the entire translation practice, the detailed analysis on the specific cases and the summary on practice experience, the report hopes to provide some useful ideas and instructions for the translation of texts with similar style and similar subject.
