The Research On Dream Prediction Culture In Fiction Of Tang Dynasty

Dream Prediction culture has a long history in ancient China, especially in Tang Dynasty, it became more fashionable in all classes, whether the feudal monarch,ministers or those at the bottom of all the indexes, all of them can find spiritual sustenance from dreams. It can be said that, Tang Dynasty is the last prosperous period of dream prediction culture. Take classical tales of Tang Dynasty for instance,the period inherits previous dream prediction culture, while shows its unique side,which provides a lot of convenience for later generations to study the society of Tang Dynasty. However, the research of dream prediction culture based on classical tales of Tang Dynasty is not much at the present stage. In view of this situation, this paper intends to make a comprehensive research on dream prediction culture in classical tales of Tang Dynasty based on careful organization of dream prediction culture before Tang Dynasty.The thesis mainly consists of five parts. The first chapter discusses meanings of the topic and value of the thesis, and summarizes current research status. The second chapter, mainly sorts out dream prediction culture before Tang Dynasty, and in order to show its evolution more clearly, the culture before Tang Dynasty can be divided into three periods: pre-Qin, Ch’in-Han, the Wei Jin and the Southern and Northern Dynasties. The third chapter, firstly, starts from the model constituting dream prediction in classical tales of Tang Dynasty to define dream prediction fiction;secondly, comprehends the connection between dream appearance and dream efficaciousness on the basis of introducing the method of dream prediction, and tries to analyses the folk custom and national psychology reflecting by dreams.The fourth chapter, classifies dream prediction on classical of Tang Dynasty from the content,and it is three main categories: royal politics, imperial examinations, love and death,and analyzes how it came into being in the writing process. The fifth chapter,discusses the cultural value of dream prediction in classical tales of Tang Dynasty on the foundation of revealing the essence of dream prediction. Its value mainly reflects on both sides: on the one hand, Tangs can satisfy some demands from dream omen;on the other hand, to modern people, dream prediction in classical tales of Tang Dynasty could have important implications for reflecting contemporary features,thinking characteristics and folklore research.
