Review Of Luo Zhenyu Inscription Research

Luo Zhenyu devoted his entire life to the study of inscriptions and has publishedextensively. Furthermore, he has made outstanding contributions to the philology, history, archaeology and many other fields. Serving as a link between past and future, heplays an important role in the development of inscriptions research. However, his research achievements haven’t received proper attention from the academic circle and no one has made a collation on his inscriptions works comprehensively and systematicallybecause the results are scattered and not easy to be collected.In view of the researchstatus, this paper includes three parts:(一) elaborating and analyzing the style and content of his inscriptions works;(二)on the basis of overall grasping the research achievements of Luo Zhenyu, putting the inscriptions research of Luo Zhenyu in context(since Qing dynasty) and making objective comments on his study achievements and shortcomings;(三)taking Luo Xuetang Combined Collected Works as the main source of materials and Index of Stone Inscription as reference, and making a complete index for the inscriptions works of Luo Zhenyu.This paper includes six parts. The first part is exordium which shows the research significance, research status and main source of materials of this topic. The second part is about the styles of Luo Zhenyu’s inscriptions study. In this part, the author will elaborate five styles in the inscriptions research works of Luo Zhenyu which include preface and postscript, catalogue, content, character table and proofreading notes. The third part is about linguistic study and the author will illustrate his research achievements in inscriptions and words. The fourth part is historical study. The author will exemplify his finding results in inscription historical materials from five aspects: proving history with inscription, proofreading history with inscription, replenishing history with inscription, reviving inscriptions with history, supplementing inscriptions with history. The fifth part is about the achievements and shortcomings of his inscriptions study. The author will put the inscriptions research of Luo Zhenyu in context(since Qing danasty) and make objective comments on his study. At last, the index of Luo Zhenyu’s inscriptions works will be revealed.This paper aims at making collation and induction towards his research achievements inscriptions. Meanwhile, the research also possesses certain reference meaning in the inscription collation, language, history, archaeology and many other study fields.
