The Research Of Literature

This paper takes the British cultural critic, literary historian and theorist Peter Widdowson’s theoretical writing Literature as the research object, and make a comprehensive interpretation of the main content as well as important points of the book, including two aspects: the first is the development process of Literature concept, analyzing the reason of transformation of literary theory focus from “Literature” to literariness; the second is to extract and analyze the concept of “the literary” which the author put forward,thinking that the concept of “the literary” inherits the traditional concept of “Literature” in the aspect of “imagination”, “fiction” and “to create”, and these elements in the text form a kind of artistic perception model, and it is this functional level that the author emphasized. In the referring to the object, all the language texts which are related to the core elements of the “Literature” concept can be regarded as “the literary texts” as well as can be carried on the literary research. In the study of concept of literature, this book takes synchronic study as well as diachronic study, which contains word reviewing, etymological exploration, social and cultural analysis, case studies and other research methods. In view of this, we can make a combination of the category research and theory history research to improve our literary theory research.
