Richard Wagner(1813-1883) was a real revolutionary master in the history of opera. His fourteen music dramas make him the most influential musical masters in the 19 th century. Taking Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder as the research object, this paper describes the background in which this song cycle was created and its writing techniques, and then discusses and analyzes from the perspective of vocal music singing. This paper is divided into three parts: Part I summarizes Wagner’s art songs and presents an overview of his Wesendonck Lieder; Part II mainly discusses the musical characteristics of Wesendonck Lieder by taking examples of Der Engel, Im Treibhaus and Traüme; In part III, the author analyzes the signing performance of Wesendonck Lieder at the levels of musical processing, voice processing and so on. The author believes that Wesendonck Lieder integrates all of Wagner’s writing techniques of musical drama. These techniques are not only the essential exercises before singing its musical dramas, but also a bridge that leads to the singing performance of its musical dramas. Through the study on the above three songs, the author hopes to further understand Wesendonck Lieder and explore how to better grasp the music style of Wagner’s vocal music works in vocal musical performance.
