Wagner is world-widely recognized as a pioneer of opera revolution. He had been working on the < Wesendonck Lider > since 1857, which was completed in the following year. This work has been taken aside, for it is regarded as the side-product of . In fact, Wagner took the significant role in the song field in the 19th century for it, which had great impact on the next-generated composers. Based on < Wesendonck Lider >, using the musicology analysis and combining the music history and music analysis, the reporter dissected the composing background and initiate, art character and spirits in depth. The paper is divided to three parts: the first part is overview, arranging the composing periods of Wager's songs, tracing the composing motive and general situations of the < Wesendonck Lider >; the second part is focused on form, analyzing the music motive, subject, harmony, structure and instrumental music; the third part is focused on the content, digging into the spiritual essential of the songs. By the systematically and deeply researching, in my opinion, < Wesendonck Lider > was a significant reflection of'Gesamtkunstwerk'. It was composed in the same time and background as , so the similar methods of'music drama'had been applied to the series of songs such as nuclear motive, semitone harmony, continuous melody and orchestra. < Wesendonck Lider >showed the particular mentality, which represented the various conflicts of Wager's concepts about love, world and art during his exile in Swiss. built up the bridge between Schubert,Schumann and Wolf,Mahler in the lider field in the 19th century, which forecasted the coming of the later romanticism.
