| Dadongliu, a suburban area, is located in the north of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, by the west of Fen river, to the east of the West Mountain, by the south of Yangqu county, and to the north of Yingze urban district. Dadongliu, covering an area of 0.63 square kilometers, has a total population of 1996 permanent residents.Till now,there has not been any research published concerning Dadongliu dialect phonetic system, even not any papers available to the readers due to the lack of overall phonetic description of Dadongliu dialect.After a series of field studies and speech materials collecting, the paper has comprehensively recorded and analyzed the phonetic aspect of Dadongliu dialect through synchronic study, and has concluded the general phonetic characteristics of Dadongliu dialect. From the perspective of diachronic study, the evolution of the Chinese phonology at Dadongliu from Tang Dynasty to the present time is stated and analyzed in this thesis, deepening the studies of the dialects in Shanxi Province.This thesis consists of the following parts: the overview of Dadongliu dialect,phonology of Dadongliu dialect, phonetic changes of Dadongliu dialect, variations of Dadongliu dialect both in written and oral form, phonological comparisons between Dadongliu dialect and Taiyuan Downtown dialect, and diachronic phonological features of Dadongliu dialect.From the synchronic perspective, the paper tries to describe the dialect from the persperctive of the phonetic changes during speech flow, softness, suffix “ar†and all kinds of overlapping nouns and adjectives, hoping to provide useful materials for further lexical studies of the dialect and for the research of the synchronic changes of Jin dialects. From the diachronic perspective, The paper summarizes the phonetic evolution from the ancient time to the present time, through the comparison of Dadongliu dialect and the phonology of Tang Dynasty.The variations of the dialect is like a window through which we can find some clues to summarize some rules that is related to the evolution of Jin dialects. The study of the variations of Dadongliu dialect is vital to the study of Jin dialects and it will also be significant to perfect the language theories of overall dialect research. |
