The late Ming Dynasty Chinese painter Chen Hongshou, is an extraordinary drawing master in Chinese history, his painting had received remarkable achievement, such as figure painting, bird-and-flower painting, landscape painting, and calligraphy painting. Among these subjects, Chen Hongshou’s figure painting brought him the most highest accomplishment. And so as his article and poems. As a pivotal figure during the late Ming and early Qing dynasty, he is the person who became a connecting link between Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing, not only breaking the stylized structure of the figure painting, creating his own style and figure shapes with his passion and unique point of view, but also bringing the enlightenment to the latter on skills and aesthetic standard. In this paper, on the basis of predecessors’ research, Chen Hongshou’s Buddhism and Taoism figure paintings were chose as the object of study, and starting from the work details, in combination with Chen Hongshou’s life experience, social and historical background, it aims to conclude and sorting out Chen Hongshou’s aesthetic characteristics on religion, Taoism, Buddhism figure painting style and concrete ways. Through the interpretation of the specific work, make the audience more extensive and comprehensive understanding of the formation and change the style of Chen Hongshou enables people to rediscover the painter in the late Ming dynasty painting status and historical significance.
