This is a project report on the translation of Bitcoin: The Economic Case for a Global, Virtual Currency Operating in an Unexplored Legal Framework written by Doctor JONATHAN B. TURPIN published in Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies in 2014. This article mainly expounds the development, structure, users construction of bitcoin as well as its operation in the present blind areas of law, and the strategies that the governments have adopted and should adopt, and then draws the conclusion that bitcoins should not be outlawed by governments, and that those who hold deposits in bitcoin are potentially open to the regulation of their home governments. Governments and individuals should keep pace with the development of new things like bitcoin. In my opinion, the original involves a few fields, such as computer, law and finance, and as a formal academic paper which is not so difficult in language, it is a proper choice for me to make a good use of my translation skills; however, on account of the complexity of the background knowledge, I can deeply feel my inadequate capacity and hope that I can draw on others’ successful experience and make progress. This translation report can be divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction of the background of this project. The second part is the introduction and analysis of the original article and the theoretical basis which guides my translation. The third part is the summary of some difficulties in this translation. The forth part focuses on some translation skills, and in this section I use some examples to explain the translation skills I employed in my version. In the last part I sum up the experience. I’ve made a summary of the experience from this translation practice, as well as the problems that should be solved.
