Enjoy The Endless Magnificent Scenery Indoors

Landscape painting developed from Zhan Ziqian in Sui Dynasty, to Li Cheng, Fan Kuan in the Five Dyansties and Song Dynasty, Huang Gongwang, Wang Meng in Yuan Dynasty and to Dong Qichang, Shi Tao and Ba Da etc. in Ming and Qing Dynasty. Landscape painting becomes more and more mature, and there are representative painters with different styles and high levels in each period. I mainly learned Chinese landscape painting during the graduate studies. Cheng Zhengkui’s work has its unique artistic features and a very high artistic value. Cheng Zhengkui’s representative work Enjoy the Endless Magnificent Scenery Indoors is rare treasures of the ancient Chinese paintings.In this thesis, Cheng Zhengkui’s life experience, inherited mentoring relations, painting thoughts, the creative background and motivation of Enjoy the Endless Magnificent Scenery Indoors are introduced and Cheng Zhengkui’s landscape painting art characteristics and ideology are analyzed. It expounds the inspiration and influence of Cheng Zhengkui’s landscape painting and ideology on my work. In addition, there are some concrete problems encountered in the creation, including the overall relationship of the picture, composition method, calligraphy painting methods and some personal understandings of the tradition.I summarize predecessors’ experiences examine my work from the traditional angle by learning Cheng Zhengkui’s works and the theory of painting. Only by understanding the tradition deeply, one can use traditional skills and the traditional scholar spirits better, fully display the theme of the works and personal feelings, promote self-improvement and artistic boundary, and better demonstrate personal ideas in the works, works.
