Paintings for rituals of water-and-land service are referred to the religious paintings hanging in the temple or on the wall when the water-and-land service was held, which is originated in India, but was once very popular in Chinese temples in ancient times. They are mostly meticulous heavy color scroll paintings about characters and painted on thin silk, cloth and paper. They have important literature and art value in the research about Chinese Buddhist history, art history, folk religion and drama history.Shanxi is a place full of historical relics such as ancient buildings and wall paintings,one of which is waterland painting.This paper aims to research and analyze the Water-landpaintings art image of BaoNing temple in the Ming dynasty with the"image study", "philology", "folklore"," textology ", "comparative study method "and other methods. From the images in "VairocanaBuddha","TianzangBodhisattva","Daweideyanfadejiamingwang"a nd" the hunger, the ill, self-punishment and the suicide"and so on in the temple, this paper has compared, concluded and combed the images through the image content, composition, twisted, color and other aspects in order to express their cultural ideas and aesthetic value by painting language and art expressionm which tries to discover a new understanding of the amphibious painting, and explores the era context and aesthetic style. Based on the development of research work and the depth of interpretation of art image in BaoNing temple, compared with the painting art in Tang and Yuan dynasty, there is more theoretical value, pioneering value, cultural connotation and realistic significance,are the fine arts, valuable models for culture, archaeology, sociology as well as fine arts research, and have promoted the art thoughts of religion embodied in aesthetics.
