With the globalization of economy and culture, the cross-culture tourism activity plays a very important role in the world. In recent years, more and more foreign visitors have come to China. The translation of signs in scenic spots, as the most convenient and direct way to influence these foreign visitors, has become the most frequently used way of explanation in scenic spots. Therefore, the English translation of the signs in scenic spots has been attracting a great number of scholars in China. Whether these signs in scenic spots are translated well or not has something to do with our country’s image in the minds of these foreign visitors. In a word, the study on translation of signs in scenic spots will surely make a great contribution to our nation’s tourism industry.Take the translation task of scenic spots in Shanxi Province as an example. The author of this thesis analyzes the differences between English and Chinese texts in signs in scenic spots. Based on these differences, the author sums up some basic strategies and methods in translation, and then tries to solve the problems existing in the current translation of signs in scenic spot under the guidance of those strategies and methods.
