Interpreting Project Report On Speeches Given By Chinese President Xi Jinping During His State Visit To Russia

With the increasing exchanges and cooperation between different countries, thedemand and standard of on-spot interpretation for diplomatic talks and speeches by stateleaders have been raised. Based on the growing importance of diplomatic interpretation,the author selects two speeches made by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit toRussia in2013as the object of a consecutive interpretation. These two speeches are:speech at the opening ceremony of Chinese tourism year in Russia on March22andspeech at Moscow Institute of International Relations on March23. They are successive inoccurrence and highly-related in content. As typical diplomatic speeches, a wide range ofpolitical, economical, tourism and trade issues have been involved.This report begins with describing interpreting task and process. By assessing thetranscript converted from on-site record, the author focuses on analyzing and discussingthe skills to cope with difficult words and expressions from three aspects: how to handlediscourse markers, culture-loaded words and coping skills on words and expressionsfollowing the principle of linguistic simplicity. This report combines theory with cases toanalyze and comment on the author’s performance and sums up effective strategies. Theauthor attempts to offer some constructive suggestions on interpreting skills. Throughconcluding useful skills, methods to handle similar challenges can be acquired andhigh-quality output will be obtained. Moreover, it may also be of some value for theinterpreters in their future interpreting practices.
