This thesis focuses on the praise to the awakening, revolt, and pursuit of happy life of female under the compressing of old society and miserable fate, in the Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns, which is implied by Hosseini with the narrative techniques of narrative voice, narrative time, narrative space and narrative discourse.Applying feminist narratology, this thesis explores the relationship between the form(narrative techniques and strategies) and the content(female view). The authorial voice in A Thousand Splendid Suns demonstrates unbiased or objective perspective to changes of Mariam and Lila?s life in war. Regarding narrative space, the changes of the place of "home" promote plot and play the role of restriction to female. With techniques of time order, duration and frequency, Hosseini constructs narrative structure to fit the content. Narrative discourse is of importance to reveal Mariam and Laila?s revolt in A Thousand Splendid Suns, such as narrated discourse, indirect narrated discourse and dramatic narrated discourse. In conclusion, Hosseini applies skillful narrative techniques to convince readers the credibility of the story, to show cruel reality and miserable life of female under war, religion and gender discrimination, to speak highly of female revolt and the pursuit of happy life, and to stimulate readers? interests so that they would hold more similar feelings to judge or even to experience the mental and physical hurt that women suffers in Afghan society.
