The thesis is based on the text, image space, background and values of Gu Changwei’s three films : Peafowl,Beginning of spring and Love for life.It elaborates the theme of life rhythm under the shackles and summarizes the significance of value of Gu Changwei’s existence by the method of ontoanalysis and horizontal comparison.There are four parts of this thesis.The introduction part mainly introduces Gu Changwei’s status in the film industry and the research status of his films. Gu Changwei’s three films have a good feedback both in art and in the market. But whether the academic publications or the thesis about Gu Changwei’s films are rarely mentioned,which is the value of the thesis.The first chapter analyzes the text of Gu Changwei’s three films. On the choice of the subject matter, Gu Changwei’s text prefer to choose the small town as the environment background and the marginal figures which often have a beautiful ideal but bounded by the reality as the narrative objects. Therefore,the characters can be divided into idealists, escapists and realists. Among the characters, the idealists adored by Gu ChangWei.The second chapter analyzes the image element from the perspective of film language. From the long shot, spatial layout, color and some details it elaborates the theme which is the life rhythm under the shackles.The third chapter explains the reason for the formation of Gu Changwei’s films from nationality, the times and environmental ages.The conclusion part summarizes several genres which are popular in the Chinese film and elaborates the function of Gu Chang Wei for it. In a word, the thesis put forward some views of mine based on research results of academic circles for the research of Gu Changwei’s films.
