Chuang Tzu’s thought has a major and far-reaching influence on Literati painting. It is crucial for the comprehension of Chinese aesthetics to have a deep understanding of the relationship between Chuang Tzu and Literati painting, especially Chuang Tzu’s influences on the paintings along with, and this is what this article focuses on.This article includes three chapters and discusses the influences of Chuang Tzu’s thought on Literati painting. The influences are about the methods of creation, the artistic conception and the theme of to be a real man.The first chapter analysis Chuang Tzu’s thought of "Tao" and its influence on Literati painting methods of creation. Firstly, the chapter discusses the view of Chuang Tzu’s "Tao" and Literati painting’s "broad sight". Chuang Tzu’s attitude of "viewed with Tao" can get the realm of "Tao" which is the most beautiful in the aesthetics attitude. The view of "broad sight" in Literati painting is the Chuang Tzu’s view of "Tao". The only sight of "Tao" will establish the new perspective that is multi-level, multi-network and multi-angle. Then the chapter explains the ideological origins of Chuang Tzu’s "the beauty of nature" and Literati painting’s "the beauty of ugly". Chuang Tzu thinks nature and Wuwei is "the great beauty" in the world. His idea of Qiwu is the thought that is complying with the nature, having no difference and being equality. The concepts of Chuang Tzu are fully followed-up in the literati painting. Literati painters consider that the withered woods, the weird stones and the natural objects without modification have the unique expressive force, which reflects the special effects and significances of Chuang Tzu’s thoughts. The second chapter analysis Chuang Tzu’s thought of "the understanding of’Tao’ and’Yi’" and its influence on the artistic realm of Literati painting. On the one hand, this chapter discusses the meaning of Chuang Tzu’s "full of Qi" and Literati painting’s "vivid with Qi and rhyme". Chuang Tzu’s "full of Qi" is the majestic realm that is being with the universe. Literati painting always has the great and harmony beauty of Chuang Tzu’s "full of Qi". And only such works can realize the real elements into the mind and give people a memorable art aesthetic. On the other hand, the chapter discusses the realm of Chuang Tzu’s "meaning is beyond the words" and Literati painting’s "the underlying meaning". The core of Chuang Tzu’s thought of "Tao" is unspeakable and only can be felt by mind. Words can only express a certain degree of "Yi". Chuang Tzu’s idea of "meaning is beyond the words" plays an important part in the aesthetic realm of Literati painting’s "the underlying meaning". Due to the space limitations of paintings, painters often choose the finite instead of infinite, which let people think of the infinite charm from the limited space. The third chapter analysis Chuang Tzu’s thought of "free and unfettered" on the theme of to be a real man of Literati painting. In the first place, the chapter discusses the mind of Chuang Tzu’s "enjoy peaceful in mind" and Literati painting’s "peaceful and quiet". Chuang Tzu thinks "enjoy peaceful in mind" is the highly quality. Literati painting forms the elegant, refined way. In the literati paintings, we can see the hermitic tone composed mainly of painters. The peaceful fun from the enjoyment in nature is the spirit of Chuang Tzu’s "enjoy peaceful in mind". After that this chapter analysis the personality of Chuang Tzu’s "free oneself from fetters" and Literati painting’s "free and relieved". The philosophy connotation of Chuang Tzu’s "free oneself from fetters" is "Tao", which requires the heart to get rid of all the interferences and enter the realm of spiritual freedom. When the painters make art, they clear their mind and meet the absolute realm of "forget yourself. In essence, it is the same with Chuang Tzu’s thought of "Tao". Chuang Tzu’s idea of "free oneself from fetters" has a profound influence on the creation of Literati painting, specifically reflected in the painters’ artistic personality of "free and relieved".
