| Chinese legal texts are of very tight logic.As we all know,Chinese has a main feature of parataxis and English that of hypotaxis,which indicates that the logic relations among English sentences and those among Chinese ones have different characteristics. Generally speaking, Chinese language tends to conceal logic relations within the meaning of words,sentences or texts,while English tends to use obvious connections to express logic relations.Therefore,it is particularly important to transfer the logic relation of sentences in the translation of Chinese and English legal texts.Firstly,this thesis analyzes in details the three features of legal texts:(1)using standard diction,(2) using fixed style and format,(3) emphasizing fact and reason.Then,on the basis of scholar’s and experts’ relative translations and researches on legal texts, this thesis figures out four principles of legal text translation,as follows,(1)the principle of preciseness and correctness,(2) the principle of clarity and succinctness,(3)the principle of consistency,(4) using standardizing language. Thirdly,this thesis discusses the implicit logic relations among words,sentences and texts in Chinese legal texts by using examples collected from the author’s own translation practice. Lastly, this thesis explores the translation strategies of adding connective words or using adverbial or attributive clauses to make the implicit logic relations among words,sentences and texts in Chinese legal texts clear so as to make the translation in line with the features of rigorousness and conciseness of legal texts,hence,avoid misunderstanding or controversy. |
