Implicit Logic Relations And Translation Of Economic Text

Emerging markets,or emerging economies,with their continuously rising contributions to the global economic development,have become the main drivers of world economic development.Encouraged by the “Going Out” Strategy,an increasing number of Chinese enterprises make overseas investments and enter emerging markets.This report is a review on the translation of Chapter 5 to Chapter 8of Emerging Markets Megatrends,written by Rajiv Biswas and published in 2018.The translation intends to enhance the readers' understanding of the current situation and future development of emerging markets,and offers valuable reference for the Chinese government to formulate foreign investment strategies in the future.This economic text embodies strong objectivity and logicality,which is a rigorous and formal book.Therefore,based on Peter Newmark's communicative translation,the translation follows the standards of faithfulness and smoothness,and the translator should ensure the accuracy,professionalism and readability of the translation.In order to maximize the dissemination of information,the translation of economic texts should be in accord with target readers in logic and expressions,which is often unfortunately ignored by many translators who have been mainly attaching much more importance to semantic meaning of the source text.Most of logical relations in the source text are manifested by explicit logical connectives but some of them are hidden in sentences.These implicit logic relations tend to go beyond the linguistic translation and need to be identified by means of grammar analysis and logical judgment,thus making the source text difficult to be translated faithfully and smoothly in Chinese.Therefore,by analyzing the translation and representative cases,this report explores the main forms of implicit logic relations in the source text and their corresponding translation methods.It is discovered that the main forms of implicit logic relations in the source text are verbalization,attributive clauses,phrases represented by prepositional phrases introduced by “with” and participle phrases.And four corresponding translation methods have been putforward,including changing theme and rheme,explicitation,conversion and amplification,so as to make the implicit logic relations clear for target readers and the expressions much more fluent and natural and avoid the phenomena of ambiguous meaning,mistranslation and translationese.
